George Zimmerman Verdict: "Not Guilty"
Fla.- Trayvon Martin's family watched as the jury delivered a "not guilty" verdict today after approximately 16 hours of deliberation. George Zimmerman showed no emotions or reactions to the verdict. Zimmerman was facing life in prison for the second degree murder charge.
Sanford, Florida quickly received a lot of media attention after racial implications caught the attention of Americans. A 17 year old, African American male, Trayvon Martin had died at the hands of a White-Latino in his late 20's, George Zimmerman. Initially, it seemed that the case was being neglected until the public showed concern and outrage. After a couple of months, Zimmerman was arrested.
America's eyes have been following this case. Some are concerned of the reactions that may come from the public after the verdict. Jonathon Vilma, Saints player, tweeted, "I get if you're mad about the verdict. I don't get going out and looting/rioting 5min from where you live. Be constructive not destructive". The conversations and comments on his page display a reflection of the verdict, and weight of the case, for people everywhere.
The criminal charges are separate from civil matters. Will there be a civil case in the future in regards to this case?
