USGS: 6.9-magnitude earthquake hits off Northern California coast

6.9 Mag. Earthquake just off California coast, is the second to shake up California today.

Just under an hour ago, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck approx. 40 miles off the coast of Northern California, in the Ferndale area. Coastal magnitude ranged around 3.8 magnitude.

After the 3.4-3.7 (reported ranges) magnitude in Southern California, near L.A., it was quite surprising to see one hit in Northern California in the same day.

Residents in the affected regions should prepare for aftershocks.
