Transgender Case Goes to Higher Court

Transgender Student Sues School

Maine- Nicole Maine is a 15 year old high school sophomore now, but in fifth grade she was told that she had to use the staff bathroom at school, instead of the girls bathroom.

A lower  court deemed that the Orono School District was within their rights to have Nicole use a staff bathroom, so now her family has taken it to a higher court, The Maine Supreme Judicial Court.

Nicole feels that her rights have been violated. Born as a biological male, Nicole identified herself as a female when she was young. The family says that she was harassed and they are glad to have their case finally heard.

Questions Posed:

How do you feel about how transgender issues are handled in schools today?

What should the outcome be in this case?

Do you feel that Nicole's rights have been violated?
