Today's Executed: Diary Shared Online

Diary of William (Bill) Van Poycke Published by Sister

The execution of 58 year old William Van Poycke was carried out this evening at the Florida State Prison. He left his years of thoughts, in the penal system, with his sister. She then published a blogged diary of these letters he had sent her over the last 8 years.

From reading just a few of these letters, it is obvious that he was a well read man and produced letters that captivate your attention. You will also find three links to the books that he has written on this well laid out blog site.

He explicitly tells of the process that he had to endure while on death row and the moments when he realizes that it is his turn for lethal injection. He speaks of them measuring him for the last suit he will ever wear and his personal mourning of the victim in his case.

After Van Poyck found out that his days of his life were numbered, every letter's opening statement listed how many days he had left til execution date.

There are many controversial thoughts surrounding the death penalty. Sometimes in life, we make decisions in a moment's time, that can change the lives of those around us and people we have never met. Those few moments can determine our destiny; but we continue to look for peace within ourselves.

Questions Posed:

How do you feel about the death penalty?

What if the victim or perpetrator was someone close to you?

How do you feel in regards to this case in particular?
